FARGO, N.D. — A Fargo man, David Berenato, was arrested following an incident in which he allegedly threw his girlfriend’s work computer and cell phone off their third-floor apartment balcony during a dispute, according to court documents.
On July 17 around 9:30 a.m., officers were alerted after a woman reported an altercation with Berenato. The victim told police that she had been trying to evict Berenato from the apartment, and that the argument escalated after she informed him of the eviction earlier that morning.
During the confrontation, Berenato allegedly hurled the woman’s computer onto the roof of a nearby garage. When she attempted to call the police, he grabbed her phone and threw it onto the garage roof as well.
At the time, the victim was holding her three-month-old child, who sustained a large scratch on the forehead, described by police as red, swollen, and bleeding.
Two other children present also witnessed Berenato throwing the devices from the balcony. Officers recovered the computer from the garage roof.
Police later located Berenato by phone and arranged to meet him at the residence. During the discussion, he denied any physical altercation or interference with emergency calls. However, Berenato was arrested after becoming argumentative, refusing to comply with a Miranda warning, and withholding personal information during booking.
He now faces charges of child abuse, interference with an emergency call, and misdemeanor criminal mischief.
