FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) – A Fargo couple is facing three counts of child neglect following the death of their three-month-old baby. Court documents reveal alarming details about the living conditions their three children endured and the presence of methamphetamine in one of the children’s systems.
On July 26, 2024, Fargo police responded to a call at the couple’s residence after Nickolas Shearer reported his infant was not breathing. First responders ceased life-saving efforts upon arrival, as the baby was cold to the touch and showed signs of having already passed away.
The couple, Nickolas and Alie Shearer, allowed officers entry into their apartment, where the other two children — a one-year-old and a two-year-old — were taken into protective custody. Officers noted that they struggled to enter the apartment due to garbage blocking the walkway. The home was described as reeking of rotten food, with piles of garbage and spoiled food scattered and splattered throughout the space.
Authorities found methamphetamine in the system of one of the children, adding to the serious concerns about the neglect the children faced.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to assess the welfare of the children and the circumstances surrounding the infant’s death.
