Fake Travel Agents Arrested for Duping Victims of Foreign Currency in Amritsar

Police recover thousands in foreign currency and luxury car from arrested suspects.

In a significant scam involving fake travel agents, the Airport Police in Amritsar arrested two individuals, Dharminder Singh and Roshan Singh, who had duped two victims out of foreign currency while promising them trips to Canada.

The scam came to light when Jaspreet Singh from Ambala and Hardeep Singh from Garhshankar were caught at the Amritsar Airport on Tuesday with fake visas and tickets. The victims revealed they were brought to Amritsar by another accomplice, Gopal Sharma, under the pretense of traveling abroad.

Upon arrest, the police recovered USD 10,000, AUD 855, CAD 550, 200 Euros, and Rs6,200, along with a Kia Seltos SUV. The suspects face charges of cheating, forgery, and criminal conspiracy. The investigation revealed that the arrested individuals had duped many others in similar scams.

Authorities are continuing to investigate and search for Gopal Sharma, the third suspect involved in the operation.
