A 43-year-old woman was arrested on Thursday at her Ghaziabad residence for impersonating a doctor and stealing valuables from the AIIMS doctors’ hostel in Delhi.
The accused, who holds a diploma in medical laboratory technology, regularly traveled from Ghaziabad to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in south Delhi. Disguised in a doctor’s coat, she would walk through hospital corridors and hostel premises, targeting unlocked rooms and stealing gold jewellery, cash, and foreign currency.
Her repeated visits and convincing disguise went unnoticed until a complaint was filed by a doctor whose room was looted. He reported that gold ornaments, ₹20,000 in cash, and 700 Malaysian Ringgit were missing.
The case was assigned to a team led by Sub-Inspector Deepender. In a thorough investigation, the police analyzed over 100 CCTV cameras installed across the AIIMS campus. With the help of both manual efforts and technical surveillance, they identified and tracked the suspect, ultimately leading to her arrest.
Authorities revealed that her obsession with expensive jewellery was the main motive behind the crimes. The investigation is ongoing.
