In a targeted anti-narcotics operation, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday apprehended a suspected drug peddler, recovering a heroin-like substance from his possession.
According to a police spokesperson, a team from Police Post Bazar intercepted a suspicious individual at a checkpoint in Geerhatchi. The man attempted to flee upon noticing the police naka party but was quickly apprehended.
The suspect was identified as Faisal Ahmad Sheikh, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Sheikh, and a resident of Kupwara. A search of his belongings led to the recovery of a heroin-like substance, believed to be part of a larger local narcotics distribution operation.
An FIR No. 149/2025 has been filed at Police Station Kupwara under relevant sections of law, and a formal investigation is underway.
Preliminary findings suggest Faisal was involved in supplying drugs within Kupwara town and the Hyhama region. Authorities are working to uncover the extent of the network and possible accomplices.
