At Akanu Ibiam International Airport (AIIA) in Enugu, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) intercepted two passengers carrying illicit drugs on June 27, 2025.
Ezenwaka Chibuzor Emmanuel, a 38-year-old bar attendant based in Maputo, Mozambique, was apprehended with 17 cardboard parcels of methamphetamine weighing 17.5 kilograms and three parcels of cocaine weighing 3.05 kilograms. Emmanuel was traveling from Johannesburg, South Africa, via Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on an Ethiopian Airlines flight. During a search, the drugs, concealed in bedsheets packed inside his luggage, were discovered.
On the same flight, 54-year-old Azu Follygan Kpodar was also intercepted by NDLEA operatives at Enugu Airport. Kpodar, who arrived from Sao Paulo, Brazil, had a liquid soap container marked “YPE” in his luggage. Forensic analysis confirmed the substance was 1.25 kilograms of liquid cocaine.
Kpodar, a toy seller from Brinquedo, Sao Paulo, claimed he bought the liquid cocaine while shopping for his wedding ceremony in Nigeria.
These arrests demonstrate the NDLEA’s ongoing commitment to combating drug trafficking through Nigeria’s airports.
