Three individuals, including an ex-serviceman and a suspended government school teacher, were arrested by the Crime Branch on Wednesday for their alleged involvement in multiple cases of fraud in Jammu and Kashmir.

The arrested suspects include Saroop Lal, an ex-serviceman from Bari Brahmana, Jameel Anjum, a suspended teacher from Jammu, and Arvinder Singh, also from Jammu. According to the Crime Branch spokesperson, Lal and Anjum were habitual offenders, with their names appearing in several First Information Reports (FIRs) related to cheating. Lal was implicated in 10 FIRs, while Anjum was named in 9, all involving fraudulent schemes to dupe youths with promises of government jobs.

Anjum was arrested for allegedly cheating Karan Singh of Rani Park, Jammu, out of Rs28.20 lakh under the guise of securing a government job for him. Lal, on the other hand, was arrested for defrauding Ram Paul of Kathua, who paid Rs5 lakh with the same false promise of a government job.

The third accused, Arvinder Singh, was arrested for his involvement in a separate fraud case related to the preparation of false permanent resident certificates and the illegal procurement of land through fraudulent means.

Following their arrests, the Crime Branch has filed chargesheets against all three accused in local courts in Jammu and Kathua, according to Senior Superintendent of Police Benam Tosh.
