Ex-Prison Officer Katie Evans Jailed for Inmate Relationship

Doncaster Woman Sentenced for Misconduct in Public Office

by Amelia Crawford

Katie Evans, 26, a former prison officer at HMP Doncaster, has been jailed for 21 months after engaging in a sexual relationship with inmate Daniel Brownley.

Evans, a Hatfield, Doncaster resident, began working at the prison in 2020 but was soon manipulated by Brownley, an experienced criminal with a history of robbery and burglary. Despite this, Judge Jeremy Richardson KC made it clear during sentencing that there was “no excuse” for her actions.

During the trial, prosecutors revealed that Evans often boasted about her encounters, referring to herself as “his queen”, and exchanged over 140 phone calls with Brownley. She also sent him money during their involvement.

Brownley had been recalled to prison in 2020 for breaching his licence conditions, yet Evans ignored protocol and engaged in an improper relationship.

Now a mother-of-one, Evans faces 21 months behind bars, serving time for her misconduct in public office.
