MAKURDI, Nigeria – June 17, 2025 — The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested former Plateau State House of Assembly Speaker Moses Thomas Sule and 14 other former lawmakers over alleged money laundering and procurement fraud.
According to the EFCC’s Makurdi Zonal Directorate, the arrests followed public petitions accusing the former legislators of violating the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022 and abusing state procurement processes during their six-month tenure.
The arrested lawmakers include:
Gwottson Fom, Sani Abubakar, Jwe Philip Gwom, Thomas Dantong, Happiness Mathew Akawu, Cornelius Dotyok, Agbalak Ibrahim, Danjuma Azi, Fwangje Bala Ndat, Salome Tanimu Wanglet, Namba Rimuyat, Nimchak Rims, Ishaku Maren, and Paul Datugun.
Investigations revealed that during their short time in office, the state government procured luxury vehicles worth over ₦2.5 billion for their official use. However, after leaving office, the former lawmakers refused to return the vehicles, despite several attempts by the state government to recover them.
Due to the impasse, the government was forced to purchase a new fleet of vehicles for the current assembly at an additional cost of about ₦2 billion, causing significant financial loss to the state.
The EFCC confirmed that charges will be filed soon against Moses Sule and the other former legislators.
