CARMEL, IN — Former Indiana University basketball guard Todd Leary was arrested Thursday morning by the Carmel Police Department, facing 10 felony charges related to fraud and theft.
The arrest warrant, issued on September 25, charges Leary with five counts of level 6 felony fraud and five counts of level 6 felony theft. In Indiana, level 6 felonies carry sentences ranging from six months to two and a half years in prison and fines up to $10,000 per count. Each of Leary’s charges involves property loss estimated between $750 and $50,000.
Leary’s bail was set at $25,000 following an initial hearing Friday afternoon.
This is not Leary’s first legal trouble. Between 2010 and 2011, he spent time in jail after pleading guilty to conspiracy to misappropriate title insurance escrow funds in a $2.7 million scheme involving a title insurance broker.
The current investigation began in May, after a victim reported being scammed out of nearly $50,000 for basketball lessons for his son, according to FOX59.
During his college career, Leary played 107 games under legendary coach Bob Knight and was part of Indiana’s 1992 Final Four team.
Leary’s pretrial conference is scheduled for November 17, with a full jury trial set to begin January 15, 2026, presided over by Judge J. Richard Campbell.
