Andrew Golobic, a former U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer, was sentenced to 12 years in prison on Monday after being convicted for violating the rights of a woman he supervised as part of a government program. Golobic, 53, will also be required to register as a sex offender upon his release and will be under supervised release for an additional 25 years.
Golobic, who had been held at Campbell County Jail since late 2022, was convicted in January 2024 on four of seven charges, including obstructing a sex trafficking investigation, deprivation of rights under color of law, tampering with a witness, and destruction of records in a federal investigation.
Between 2006 and 2020, Golobic worked as a deportation officer with ICE and supervised individuals under the Alternatives to Detention program in Blue Ash, Ohio. His role involved overseeing immigrants, many of whom had fled violent situations and exploitation. Prosecutors accused Golobic of forcing a woman under his supervision into nonconsensual sex and deleting evidence after being confronted by federal authorities.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Golobic exploited his power over vulnerable women, using his authority to control their freedom and determine the level of supervision. The case has highlighted the abuse of power within government programs intended to protect immigrants.
Golobic’s sentence comes as part of a broader commitment by federal authorities to ensure accountability for public servants who violate their authority and harm those under their care.
