by Sophia Bennett

Joshua Anthony Gallardo, a former officer with the El Paso Police Department, was terminated on Thursday following his arrest for assault-related charges. Gallardo, who had a history of assault allegations, was booked into the El Paso County jail on February 27, 2025.

The new charges against Gallardo include:

Assaulting a family member (Offense date: Aug. 15, 2024)

Terroristic threats causing fear of serious bodily injury (Offense date: Jan. 17, 2025)

Assault impeding breathing/circulation (Offense date: Feb. 11, 2024)

A total bond of $30,000 was set for all three charges, and Gallardo posted bail the same day.

This marks Gallardo’s second arrest in less than two years. In July 2023, Gallardo was arrested for allegedly assaulting a 28-year-old woman after a night out at a bar in east El Paso. Following that incident, the EPPD placed him on administrative duty. A bond of $7,500 was set for that case, and Gallardo was released after posting bail.

The El Paso Police Department confirmed that Gallardo is no longer employed with the force as of Thursday. Gallardo also has a jury trial scheduled for April 25, 2025, in connection with his 2023 assault case.
