17-year-old to be tried as adult in Peaches Corner case

Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The Myrtle Beach Police Department is investigating a deadly shooting that occurred late Friday night at Peaches Corner, a well-known restaurant on Ocean Boulevard.

Evony McCray, 17, an employee at the restaurant, has been charged as an adult following the fatal incident. Authorities say McCray allegedly shot 18-year-old Grayson Meyers, who later died from his injuries, and another individual who survived with non-life-threatening wounds.

The shooting reportedly followed an altercation inside the restaurant around 11:15 p.m. McCray faces multiple charges, including:

Assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature

Possession of a weapon during a violent crime

Possession of a weapon by a juvenile

His bond was denied for the assault charge, and set at $250,000 for each of the two weapons-related charges. Due to the nature of the crime, the murder charge is being escalated to a higher court, as city-level courts in South Carolina cannot prosecute for murder.

Fifteenth Circuit Solicitor Jimmy Richardson confirmed McCray will be tried as an adult, given the gravity of the offense. Police have not yet confirmed whether the victim was armed.

The investigation remains ongoing.
