Cape Coral Man Arrested for $150K Bank Fraud in Golden Gate
A Cape Coral man, Eugene Kleyman, 39, was arrested for identity theft and grand theft over $100,000 after impersonating a Fifth Third Bank customer and making fraudulent transactions in Golden Gate.
According to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), Kleyman visited the Fifth Third Bank on Santa Barbara Blvd. multiple times, using a fake Georgia driver’s license to pose as an account holder. Over several transactions, he successfully withdrew more than $150,000.
Bank employees grew suspicious and contacted the real account holder, who confirmed his identity had been stolen. When Kleyman attempted to schedule another withdrawal, the bank staff alerted CCSO and set up a 2 p.m. appointment on Tuesday.
Deputies arrived at the bank and took Kleyman into custody. While detained, he requested a cup of water, and when deputies retrieved it, they found a Georgia driver’s license and a stolen credit card hidden inside. The ID had Kleyman’s photo but the victim’s name and personal details.
Kleyman was transported to Collier County Jail and charged with grand theft over $100,000 and identity theft.
