A brutal murder has shaken Uttar Pradesh’s Etawah district, where a 25-year-old woman named Anjali was allegedly killed over a land dispute by a property dealer and his associate. Her mutilated body was found near a river on Saturday, five days after she went missing.
The main accused, Shivendra Yadav (26), and his accomplice Gaurav (19), have been arrested. During interrogation, both reportedly confessed to the gruesome crime.
Anjali had reportedly paid Rs6 lakh to Shivendra Yadav for a piece of land. Her family said she was called by Yadav to collect the property papers. Instead, the accused allegedly forced her to consume alcohol, strangled her to death, set her body on fire, and dumped it near a river to destroy evidence.
In a shocking twist, police revealed that Shivendra Yadav made a video call to his father and wife, showing them Anjali’s body, further solidifying his involvement.
The case came to light when Anjali’s family discovered her burnt scooter abandoned near a drain and filed a missing person’s report. Based on their suspicions and initial leads, police detained both suspects, who confessed to the murder.
Anjali’s sister, Kiran, stated that Yadav had been delaying the land transfer and lured Anjali under the false pretense of handing over documents. “She trusted him. She thought she’d finally get what she paid for,” Kiran said, breaking down.
Police have registered a case under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including murder (302), destruction of evidence (201), and criminal conspiracy (120B). Authorities have promised a swift and thorough investigation.
This tragic case has reignited concerns around women’s safety and fraud in real estate dealings in the region.
