Estherwood Man Charged in Thanksgiving Road Rage Shooting

Luiz Morales faces attempted murder and obstruction charges

by Sophia Bennett

ACADIA PARISH, La. — Authorities say a Thanksgiving morning road rage incident on I-10 in eastern Acadia Parish left one person shot and resulted in the arrest of Luiz Morales, 38, of Estherwood.

Morales faces two counts each of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated obstruction of a highway of commerce.

According to officials, a white pickup truck was seen driving erratically around 2 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day, allegedly brake-checking another vehicle, blocking lanes, and eventually stopping the vehicle completely. Morales reportedly exited the truck and fired multiple shots at the occupants.

As the victims fled, Morales allegedly pursued them. They were able to reach a well-lit business before Morales left the scene. The victim was treated at a local hospital and released.

Investigators identified Morales as the suspect, who was arrested later that day without incident. He is currently held without bail at the Acadia Parish Jail.
