In a disturbing case of child trafficking, Erode police have arrested six individuals, including a 28-year-old mother, for allegedly selling her 50-day-old daughter for Rs4 lakh. The shocking transaction reportedly involved four brokers and a couple from Nagercoil, who paid for the infant.
According to police reports, the mother, Nithya, had moved to Erode after a dispute with her husband. While in Erode, Nithya formed a relationship with S. Santosh Kumar (28), who suggested selling the newborn after Nithya became pregnant. The police investigation revealed that Nithya, along with brokers, had arranged the illegal sale, which ultimately led to the baby being handed over to the couple from Nagercoil.
The Erode police arrested Nithya and the others involved in the transaction, including the brokers who facilitated the illegal exchange. Authorities have charged the suspects under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Human Trafficking laws. The investigation is ongoing, and the police are working to ensure the child’s safety and welfare.
This incident highlights the grave issue of child trafficking and illegal adoption in the region. Authorities have cautioned against such illegal practices and urged people to report any suspicious activities related to child trafficking or exploitation.
