PAWTUCKET, R.I. — A 37-year-old Pawtucket man, Eric Peterson, has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred Monday at 54 Arch Street, leaving one man dead and a woman injured.

Police said Peterson, who lived on the first floor of the multi-family home, is accused of opening fire on residents living on the second floor. A 28-year-old man was pronounced dead, and a 25-year-old woman sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Disturbingly, court documents also revealed that Peterson assaulted a 2-year-old boy with a gun during the incident.

Peterson faces the following charges:

First-degree murder

Three counts of using a firearm while committing a crime of violence

Two counts of felony assault

Possession of a firearm by a prohibited person

Carrying a pistol without a license

Authorities described the incident as isolated, involving two families who lived on separate floors of the same residence.

Peterson was ordered held without bail during his Tuesday court appearance, where he was also presented as a probation violator. No plea was entered, and the case will proceed to superior court.
