CUMBERLAND, RI (WKRN) — A 40-year-old Pawtucket man, Basilio Andrade, has been arrested for allegedly stealing a large amount of cash from his workplace, Jahn’s Metal Craft, located at 4 Carl St., Cumberland.

On March 5, 2025, members of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a report of a stolen safe containing substantial cash from the business. Detectives and uniformed officers canvassed the area, reviewing surveillance footage and gathering witness statements. Their investigation led to Andrade, a current employee of the company, as the prime suspect.

An arrest warrant was obtained, and Andrade was taken into custody without incident Tuesday morning in front of the business. He has been charged with entry of a building or ship with felonious intent.

Andrade, who has a criminal history that includes two prior convictions for breaking and entering, is currently being held pending his arraignment. Authorities said that the stolen funds were essential for the company’s operations, highlighting the seriousness of the crime, especially in today’s economic climate.

Cumberland Police Chief Matthew Benson praised the swift resolution of the case: “When you have a trusted employee found to have stolen financial resources from their employer that are critical for maintaining the viability of the business, it makes this investigation even more important. Communities have no space for those who take what isn’t theirs, and I’m glad we were able to apprehend this individual,” Benson stated.
