LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Multiple people are facing charges after a gun was stolen from a vehicle on Meade County High School’s campus after hours, authorities said.
Meade County Superintendent Mark Martin confirmed that the theft occurred after school hours and emphasized that there was never a threat to students or the school.
In a letter sent home to parents Wednesday, officials said police received a report of the stolen gun Tuesday night. The vehicle had arrived on campus after dismissal, and the theft did not occur during the school day.
School officials stated the investigation was handled by police and noted that the individuals involved were identified, charged, and the stolen gun was recovered.
Meade County Detention Center records show 18-year-old Emmit Day was arrested Wednesday and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon on school property and theft of a firearm. Online records list Day as a senior on the Meade County High School football team this past season.
