A 23-year-old man, Emmanuel Odimayomi, was sentenced to two years imprisonment by the Ekiti State Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ado Ekiti District, for burglary and stealing.
Odimayomi was arraigned on February 20 on a two-count charge involving burglary and theft.
According to the police prosecutor, Inspector Elijah Adejare, the offense occurred in the early hours of January 20 on Saint Paul Street, Odo Ado, Ado Ekiti. Odimayomi, who had been employed as a security guard at a Fan Milk company for just four days, broke into the company’s office and stole N1,037,170.
After committing the theft, he traveled to Offa in Kwara State, where he paid for a month’s lodging at a hotel. He was later apprehended by vigilantes in Offa for another crime and subsequently handed over to the Ekiti State police.
The charges were brought under Sections 322(c) and 302(1a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
During the trial, the prosecution called five witnesses, while the defense presented one.
On Friday, Magistrate Kehinde Awosika found Odimayomi guilty on both counts and sentenced him to two years imprisonment without the option of a fine.
