Emily Matthews Arrested for Theft and Meth Possession

Benson woman accused of selling stolen weedeater for $60

BENSON, N.C. — A 37-year-old Dunn woman, Emily Matthews, is facing multiple charges after being arrested in connection with a theft and drug possession case in Johnston County.

Matthews, who has listed addresses on U.S. Highway 301 North and McLamb Road, was taken into custody on September 13.

She has been charged with:

Felony obtaining property by false pretense

Felony possession of methamphetamine

Misdemeanor larceny

Misdemeanor possession of stolen property

According to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, Matthews is accused of stealing a Craftsman electric weedeater and lithium battery—valued at $198—from a home in the Meadow community on September 10. She then sold the stolen equipment to an unsuspecting buyer for just $60.

On September 13, a deputy spotted Matthews in a parking lot on East Parrish Drive in Benson. During her detainment, deputies reportedly discovered a small amount of suspected methamphetamine hidden in her bra.

She was booked into the Johnston County Jail with a $16,000 secured bond.
