MADBURY, N.H. (WCVB/WMUR) — Shocking new details have emerged about a New Hampshire woman who allegedly embezzled over $600,000 from her employer before fatally shooting her husband and two of their children, then taking her own life.

Just a week before the tragedy unfolded, Derek Fisher, the owner of Wing-itz, filed a police report accusing his employee, 34-year-old Emily Long, of extensive financial theft. Long had served as the director of operations for the regional restaurant chain.

“I felt like I had no other option but to go to law enforcement,” Fisher said. “We noticed a lot of handwritten checks in her name being deposited into her personal account.”

Fisher stated that irregularities in the company’s finances began appearing in early 2023. After a thorough review, he discovered that more than $660,000 had been stolen between January 2023 and July 2025.

Despite the growing concerns, Fisher said he hesitated to act quickly due to Long’s personal circumstances—her husband, 48-year-old Ryan Long, was undergoing treatment for brain cancer.

“Given her circumstances, I was trying to be considerate and patient,” Fisher explained.

On August 18, Fisher was devastated to learn that Emily Long, her husband Ryan, 8-year-old son Parker, and 6-year-old daughter Ryan were found shot dead in their Madbury home. Authorities believe Emily Long was the shooter. A third child, a toddler, was found unharmed at the scene.

“I was completely devastated and heartbroken. I cared deeply for her and her family,” Fisher said. “I was around all of her children as they grew up.”

Fisher has chosen not to pursue legal action to recover the embezzled funds, saying his focus is now on the surviving child.

“Anything that’s left should go to that child. He deserves all of it. It’s not fair to him,” he said.

Investigators have not confirmed whether the embezzlement played a direct role in the tragic events, noting that such situations are often driven by a combination of complex factors.
