A 48-year-old man from Norwich has been convicted of murdering his neighbour following a dispute.
Elvis Vickers, of Mousehold Street, was found guilty by a jury at Norwich Crown Court on 11th December for the fatal stabbing of Abdul Chadli in November 2024.
The court heard that the men, who lived in adjacent flats, had been drinking together at Vickers’ home on the evening of 1st November. During an argument about current affairs, Vickers sent a text to a friend stating, “just to let you know, I just killed Abs,” and later called 999, admitting, “Yeah, I killed him.”
Police found Chadli, originally from Hertfordshire, with a single knife wound to the chest. He died at the scene. Vickers claimed self-defence, but evidence showed he acted with “anger and hatred” and stabbed Chadli with force and intent.
Detective Inspector Sam Pontin described the killing as “senseless” and expressed hope the conviction provides some justice to Chadli’s family and friends. Vickers will be sentenced in the new year.
Chadli’s family paid tribute, remembering him as a “kind, caring and gentle guy” whose loss is deeply felt.
