Eluru: Eluru district police have arrested Vadlamudi Uma Mahesh in India for stealing about 4.49 kilograms of gold worth approximately Rs 7 crore from a private gold loan firm, Kanakadurga Gold Finance, and have successfully recovered the stolen property.
The incident occurred in September 2025 at the Chintalapudi branch. Vadlamudi Uma Mahesh, an auditor and resident of Naidupeta, Nellore District, had come from the head office to conduct an audit. In violation of company norms, he removed all gold ornaments from the lockers and continued auditing till the afternoon.
In the evening, when the branch manager, Praveen, left the premises, the accused sent the cashier, Asha Sri, out under the pretext of bringing coconut water. He then packed 4.490 kg of gold ornaments in 378 packets into a bag he had brought and absconded.
Under the supervision of Eluru Superintendent of Police K P S Kishore and guidance of ASP R Sushmita and In-charge DSP Sri U Ravi Chandra, a special team led by Inspector T. Kranthi Kumar with assistance from the Eluru District Cyber Cell and IT Core Team conducted a thorough investigation.
The accused was arrested on January 28 in India, and a total of 4.484 kg of gold ornaments was recovered from him, marking a successful conclusion to the case.
