Elkins Police Officer Christian Mayle Charged with Domestic Battery

Officer on Administrative Leave Pending Investigation into Battery Charges

ELKINS, W.Va. — Elkins Police Officer Christian Mayle, 25, has been placed on administrative leave after being charged with domestic battery in Barbour County. The Elkins Police Department confirmed the news, stating that Mayle’s arrest occurred over the weekend.

“We are aware of the arrest of EPD Probationary Patrolman Christian Mayle,” the department said in a statement. “Patrolman Mayle is currently on administrative leave pending investigation into this matter. The Elkins Police Department is proceeding in accordance with State Law and Civil Service Rules as it relates to Patrolman Mayle’s employment with the City of Elkins.”

According to a criminal complaint filed by a Belington police officer, Mayle allegedly threatened to kill a woman and physically assaulted her early Sunday morning. The woman reported that Mayle grabbed her by the throat and slammed her into a door. Injuries consistent with her account were observed by the arresting officer.

Mayle was arrested about a half-mile from the scene and was processed at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail. He faces a misdemeanor charge of domestic battery. The investigation is ongoing, and further details are not being disclosed at this time.
