CROSS LANES, WV — Elizabeth Nicole Clay, 41, of Charleston, was arrested Wednesday in connection with the theft of multiple vehicles from United Rentals in Cross Lanes.

The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) said Clay faces charges of “Entry of a Building Other Than a Dwelling” and “Grand Larceny.”

The theft occurred on December 19, 2025, when James Quesenberry entered United Rentals on New Goff Mountain Road and stole a Ford F-550, a flatbed trailer, and two side-by-side off-road utility vehicles. Investigators said Quesenberry used an excavator to breach a fence to escape.

A stolen white U-Haul truck was also used in the crime. The total value of the stolen property is estimated at about $85,000. On December 25, Quesenberry was stopped while driving the stolen U-Haul.

Investigators discovered text messages between Quesenberry and Clay from the night of the theft discussing a truck, and later messages on Clay’s cellphone showed plans to sell the stolen property the following day.

Clay is being held at the South Central Regional Jail on a $2,500 cash-only bond. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing.
