Eldon Gustavo Gonzalez has been arrested on felony theft charges for allegedly stealing nine registered Longhorn yearling bulls from Caldwell County, Texas. The arrest concludes a year-long investigation led by Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association Special Ranger Kenny Murchison.
In April 2023, a report was filed with Special Ranger Murchison when a victim discovered that their bulls had disappeared from a Caldwell County property. Murchison quickly mobilized Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association market inspectors and provided them with detailed descriptions and brand marks for the missing bulls.
Days later, five of the bulls were located at a central Texas auction barn. They were pulled from the sale and returned to their rightful owner. The remaining four bulls were located soon after through a tip and found with an additional heifer belonging to the same victim. All 10 cattle were positively identified by the victim’s brand and returned.
Investigators connected the missing bulls to Gonzalez, who had sold the animals to a third party. After several failed attempts to contact him, authorities learned he had moved, prompting the issuance of two felony theft warrants. Gonzalez was arrested in October 2024 and booked into the Caldwell County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
Special Ranger Murchison extended thanks to the Caldwell County District Attorney’s Office, the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office, and Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association Market Inspectors for their collaboration in resolving the case.
