Vadapalani police cracked a chilling case involving the murder of 19-year-old R Mukil in Choolaimedu, revealing an unexpected twist through CCTV footage and forensic evidence.
Initially, Mukil’s mother, R Pramila, 47, confessed to killing her youngest son after he allegedly threatened her life. However, investigations uncovered that the real perpetrator was Mukil’s elder brother, R Vasantha Kumar, 30, a construction labourer.
Pramila, separated from her husband for 17 years, lived with her three sons. Mukil had a troubled past, including involvement in assault and theft cases, along with an alcohol addiction that led to frequent threats against his mother.
On Saturday morning, Pramila reported to the Vadapalani police station, claiming self-defense in the killing. Police collected the body and sent it for postmortem at the government ESI Hospital in KK Nagar.
Forensic analysis showed that the fatal wound was likely inflicted by a man. Meanwhile, CCTV footage captured Vasantha Kumar entering the family home early that morning with his friend G Kannan, 28, who was also arrested along with the mother and elder brother.
The police continue their investigation to uncover the full circumstances behind this tragic family crime.
