The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Moses Sule, former Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, along with 14 former lawmakers, on allegations of money laundering and abuse of office.

EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale announced the arrests on Wednesday in Abuja. The suspects were apprehended by operatives from the EFCC’s Makurdi Zonal Directorate on Tuesday, following petitions from concerned citizens in Plateau State.

According to Oyewale, the former legislators violated the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, and were implicated in procurement irregularities.

Other lawmakers arrested include Gwottson Fom, Sani Abubakar, Jwe Gwom, Timothy Dantong, Happiness Akawu, Cornelius Doeyok, Agbalak Ibrahim, Danjuma Azi, Fwangje Ndat, Salome Waklet, Namba Rimuyat, Nimchak Rims, Ishaku Maren, and Paul Datugun.

Investigations revealed that these former lawmakers served only six months in office, during which the state government purchased luxury vehicles valued at N2.5 billion for their official use. Upon leaving office, the vehicles were supposed to be returned but were reportedly taken by the legislators, with efforts to retrieve them proving unsuccessful.

Consequently, the state government had to acquire a new fleet of vehicles worth about N2 billion for the current House members.

The suspects will be formally charged in court after the EFCC concludes its investigations.
