Tallahassee, FL — A Mexican national has been sentenced to two years in prison for immigration-related fraud in the Northern District of Florida.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office reported that Eduardo Saavedra Melayes, 45, submitted a passport application at a Panama City post office that was flagged and denied due to signs of fraud. Investigators determined that Melayes used another person’s identity to submit the application and possessed documents unlawfully.

Records also show that Melayes had previously used a false passport in 2008, 2009, 2024, and 2025 to travel between the United States and Mexico. At all times, he was unlawfully present in the U.S.

He was sentenced for aggravated identity theft, falsely representing U.S. citizenship, and making false statements in a passport application.
