East Jaintia Hills police on Monday arrested two suspected drug traffickers, including a 65-year-old woman, following a vehicle search on National Highway-06 near Sunapur village. Acting on credible intelligence, officers intercepted a Maruti Eco van with registration number ML05-AE-4423.
Upon inspection, police found 14 soap boxes filled with suspected drugs. Six boxes were concealed on the elderly woman, identified as Gouri Das, while eight were hidden inside the vehicle. The driver, Safiqul Alom (40), a resident of Silchar, Assam, was also taken into custody.
The duo is currently being interrogated, and police seized Rs26,450 cash from their possession. Further investigation and legal action are underway.
