CARBONEAR, NL — Two men from St. John’s have been arrested and charged after allegedly attempting to steal a $1,000 Dewalt table saw from Canadian Tire in Carbonear.
The RCMP received a report at around 2 p.m. on Tuesday about the theft in progress. Store employees confronted the suspects outside the store, causing them to flee in a vehicle, leaving the saw behind.
Police later stopped the unregistered vehicle on Veteran’s Memorial Highway near North River and arrested the two men:
Dylan Ryan, 43
Michale Squires, 46
Both suspects were reportedly wanted by the RNC for other unrelated offences at the time of arrest.
A search of the vehicle uncovered property allegedly stolen from another business, further compounding the charges.
Ryan and Squires have been charged with theft under $5,000 and appeared in court on Tuesday.
Ryan remains in custody and is scheduled to appear again in court on Monday.
Squires was released on conditions and is set to return to court on May 21.
Authorities continue to investigate whether the suspects are connected to additional thefts in the area.
