NEW BERN, NC — A 20-year-old New Bern man, Dylan Brite, is facing multiple felony charges after a dog sale turned violent, leading to gunfire and a high-speed chase through Craven County.
Counterfeit Cash Triggers Dangerous Chase
The incident began around 9:21 p.m. Monday, when Craven County deputies responded to a shots-fired call near Wildlife Road and US 17. The victim reported that during a dog sale on Antioch Road, the buyer paid using counterfeit bills.
Upon discovering the fake money, the seller pursued the suspect’s vehicle. During the pursuit, someone inside the vehicle reportedly fired a gun at the seller. Fortunately, no one was injured.
High-Speed Pursuit and Arrest
Deputies quickly located the suspect’s vehicle near Bridgeton, but the driver—Dylan Brite—refused to pull over, sparking a high-speed chase that ended in a crash.
Brite was arrested at the scene and now faces the following charges:
Felony flee/elude arrest with a motor vehicle
Felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell, and deliver marijuana
Speeding
Authorities confirmed that Brite is being held on a $20,000 secured bond. As a condition of his release, he is prohibited from using or possessing controlled substances without a prescription and may not own or carry any weapons or firearms.
