In a coordinated crackdown on drug trafficking, two men were arrested near Ernakulam Junction Railway Station on Friday for attempting to smuggle 5.150 kg of ganja transported via train from Odisha, according to local police reports.
The arrested individuals have been identified as:
Duryathana Malik, a native of Odisha
Sachin K Binu, a resident of Maradu, near Kochi
According to officials, Sachin Binu is a key player in a larger drug distribution network that targets youth in Kochi. The investigation revealed that Malik smuggled the ganja from Odisha following instructions from Sachin.
The arrest took place during the handover of the contraband near the railway station. The police suspect that this bust is part of a wider inter-state smuggling operation, and further investigation is underway to identify other members involved in the Odisha-Kochi drug route.
Authorities emphasized that such operations will continue as part of their mission to disrupt drug trafficking networks and protect youth from the growing narcotics threat.
