KEARNEY COUNTY, NE — Duniesky Benitez Torres, 35, from Grand Island, has been charged in connection to a fatal crash in Kearney County earlier this year. Torres faces a charge of motor vehicle homicide, a Class 1 misdemeanor, and two infractions for violating a stop or yield sign.
The accident occurred on November 5 at approximately 10:50 a.m., when a Nebraska State Patrol trooper responded to a crash at the intersection of County Road B and County Road 23, east of Wilcox. According to the investigation, Benitez Torres failed to stop at a stop sign while traveling southbound on County Road 23, colliding with a 2008 Buick Lucerne driven by a 61-year-old woman traveling eastbound on County Road B.
The crash resulted in the death of 35-year-old Salvador De Jesus Alvarado Reyes, a passenger in Benitez Torres’ vehicle. Both Benitez Torres and the driver of the Buick were transported to a hospital with serious injuries. Authorities noted that neither Benitez Torres nor his passenger were wearing seatbelts, and Torres did not have a valid driver’s license at the time.
A warrant for Benitez Torres’ arrest was issued on December 16, although it is unclear whether he has been apprehended.
