Duleswar Gandha, 45, of Bijadihi village, who was acquitted last year in a patricide case after serving five years of a life sentence, has been arrested once again—this time for allegedly committing another murder.
Lephripada police arrested Duleswar on Sunday for the suspected killing of 43-year-old Rankanidhi Oram. The victim’s body was discovered in Raidihi forest on Saturday morning, shortly after the alleged crime took place.
According to SDPO (Sadar) Nirmal Mohapatra, Duleswar has confessed to the murder during interrogation. Further investigation is underway to determine the motive and whether others were involved.
Duleswar’s earlier acquittal by the High Court in 2023 had raised eyebrows, and this recent arrest underscores concerns about repeat offenders re-engaging in violent crimes.
