On Sunday, Mumbai police arrested a 45-year-old drug supplier after recovering 6.688 kilograms of mephedrone worth approximately Rs13.37 crore from his Dongri residence.
The operation began in April when a joint team from the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) and RCF police intercepted 31-year-old Rehan Santosh Shaikh in Chembur. Shaikh was found carrying 45 grams of mephedrone valued at Rs4.5 lakh. His interrogation led authorities to three additional drug peddlers, all arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in early May.
These accused revealed the identity of a major drug supplier based in South Mumbai. Acting on this lead, police raided the supplier’s Dongri home on May 18, discovering the large stash of mephedrone concealed in a plastic sack. Field tests confirmed the substance as mephedrone.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Navnath Dhavale of Zone 6 stated, “A total of five individuals were arrested from Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, and we have seized mephedrone worth over Rs13 crore. We are continuing investigations and expect to dismantle the entire drug syndicate soon.”
