In a breakthrough, the Commissionerate Police has cracked the case of a robbery involving Cuttack businessman Niranjan Goyal. The businessman was looted at gunpoint inside his apartment at Badambadi Bikas Nagar. The investigation led to the arrest of three individuals, including Goyal’s driver.

The robbery occurred when the assailants forcibly entered Goyal’s residence, assaulted him, and made off with Rs 5 lakh in cash, as well as keys and a mobile phone. The prompt and thorough investigation by the police, which was bolstered by CCTV footage and technical evidence, revealed an insider plot.

During questioning, Goyal’s driver, a resident of Dhenkanal, confessed to masterminding the robbery with two accomplices. He had knowledge of his employer’s routine of bringing cash home on weekends. To divert suspicion, the driver pretended to be a victim in a chase. However, clues at the scene, including a toy gun used in the crime, ultimately led to the suspects’ capture.

Cuttack Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) mentioned that the investigation continues, with efforts to recover the stolen money and apprehend any additional suspects.

This incident highlights the need for heightened security in residential areas and emphasizes the importance of trust and vigilance when dealing with personal staff.
