Dr. Zhi Alan Cheng Pleads Guilty to Raping Drugged Women

Queens doctor admits to filming sexual assaults of unconscious victims

QUEENS, NY – Former Queens doctor Zhi Alan Cheng, 35, has pleaded guilty to a string of sexual assaults involving sedated and unconscious women — crimes he often recorded on video.

Appearing in court Monday, Cheng admitted to four counts of rape and three counts of sexual abuse, related to seven victims. He also entered an Alford plea on a separate sexual abuse charge involving an eighth woman, acknowledging the evidence without admitting guilt.

Cheng, who worked as a gastroenterologist at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens, has been jailed without bail since 2022, after his then-girlfriend accused him of drugging and assaulting her in his Astoria apartment using a mask filled with drug-soaked cotton.

Her discovery of disturbing video recordings led to a joint investigation by the Queens District Attorney’s Special Victims Bureau and NewYork-Presbyterian, culminating in a search of Cheng’s home. Investigators recovered multiple videos showing Cheng groping hospital patients as young as 19 and raping drugged women at home — some of whom he met through dating apps.

Authorities also seized a stash of drugs from his apartment, including cocaine, ketamine, fentanyl, LSD, MDMA, and sedatives like propofol and sevoflurane — some commonly used in medical settings.

Queens DA Melinda Katz condemned Cheng’s actions, calling them a “gross betrayal” of his medical oath.

Cheng’s medical license has been suspended, and he is expected to be sentenced to 24 years in prison on August 28.
