Pelhar Police have booked Dr. Tanjeel Ansar Momin, a 42-year-old Unani medicine practitioner, for operating an unlicensed clinic in Nalasopara East and illegally storing restricted Schedule H drugs. She is also accused of possessing fake medical seals belonging to registered doctors.
Dr. Momin, holding a Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (B.U.M.S.) degree, runs the Ansar Clinic in the Shridhar Nagar area of Dhaniwadi. The case was initiated after Dr. Krishna Yuvraj Gosavi, a government medical officer from Dhaniv Nagar Urban Health Centre, filed a formal complaint.
Following the complaint, police conducted a raid on July 22, 2025, and registered an FIR under Section 341(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 27(D) of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940. During the search, police seized several restricted allopathic medicines and forged rubber stamps.
Recovered items included eight rubber stamps with names of registered doctors and hospitals, nine vials of Renargan (Promethazine), five vials of Tazowin (Pentazocin), one vial of Phenargan (Promethazine), two bottles of Lignocaine 2%, and seven unused vials of Zocifix (Pentazocin). All these drugs require strict medical authorization as per Schedule H regulations.
Though Dr. Momin is qualified in Unani medicine, she was allegedly administering and storing allopathic medicines illegally. The possession of forged stamps belonging to MBBS and MD doctors raises serious concerns about malpractice and patient safety.
The investigation continues as authorities probe potential risks to public health from this unauthorized practice.
