WASILLA, Alaska (KTUU) – Jeffrey Lynn Sponsler, a practicing doctor in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley and owner of Alaska Music and Arts, was arrested and federally charged with possessing child sexual abuse material.
Prosecutors allege that on or around March 17, 2025, Sponsler knowingly possessed and accessed images of child pornography on a computer disk and other media. The charges stem from an ongoing FBI investigation following a search of Sponsler’s home.
Court documents reveal that the FBI discovered an extensive and well-organized collection of child pornography, stored across dozens of electronic devices including desktops, laptops, external hard drives, memory cards, DVDs, and even VHS tapes.
Prosecutors stated that Sponsler did not attempt to conceal his sexual interest in children, citing possession of books depicting nude minors in sexual poses found in his home. The FBI continues to examine the seized devices.
Sponsler’s defense attorney, Robert M. Herz, requested his client be released on bond with 24/7 house arrest and GPS monitoring, arguing Sponsler is not a flight risk or danger. Herz described the government’s case as reliant on conjecture and noted that no victims have been identified.
Sponsler’s arraignment is scheduled for June 9, 2025, before U.S. Magistrate Judge Kyle F. Reardon.
Alaska’s News Source has sought comments from Sponsler’s attorney and the Alaska Brain Center, where Sponsler practices, but had not received responses by publication.
