Badlapur, Maharashtra: The Badlapur Police have arrested Dr Amol Patil, director of Malti IVF Centre, for allegedly operating an unauthorised IVF centre, conducting illegal surrogacy procedures, and selling human eggs.
Dr Patil is the sixth person arrested in the case. Earlier, four women and one man were taken into custody for their alleged involvement in the racket, which was reportedly operated from an apartment in Badlapur.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 4, Sachin Gore, said the investigation revealed that the arrested agents and other accused reported directly to Dr Patil. He added that Dr Patil was running the Thane centre without legal permissions and had suspected links to international surrogacy and human egg trafficking networks. Dr Patil has been remanded to five days police custody.
In response to the arrests, Neelam Gorhe emphasized that Dr Patil’s registration must be cancelled. BJP MLC Chitra Wagh stated that poor women were offered money to donate eggs, which were then sold for IVF cycles—a commercialisation of human body parts.
Minister of State for Home, Yogesh Kadam, announced stricter regulations, including mandatory Aadhaar cards for each donor registration at IVF centres to prevent future misuse.
