DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. — Two 20-year-old Douglas County residents, William King and Amber Rivera, have been arrested in connection with severe injuries sustained by their 5-month-old infant.
On August 24, the infant was taken to the emergency room, where medical staff discovered over 30 broken bones in various stages of healing. The extent of the injuries prompted an immediate investigation by local authorities.
Investigators determined that the infant had spent the first four months of life in a NICU facility and had been in the parents’ custody for only about six weeks. Interviews with pediatricians, family members, and other witnesses concluded that both parents were responsible for the injuries. Medical professionals stated the injuries were consistent with prolonged and repeated abuse.
As a result, William King and Amber Rivera were arrested and charged with multiple offenses under Georgia law, including:
Aggravated Battery
Conspiracy to Commit a Felony
Cruelty to Children – 1st Degree
Cruelty to Children – 2nd Degree
Criminal Attempt to Commit Murder
Obstruction
Both defendants appeared before Magistrate Judge Susan Camp for a bond hearing, where bond was denied.
The investigation remains active, and additional legal proceedings are expected in the coming weeks.
