by Sophia Bennett

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) — Three individuals have been accused of executing a fraudulent return scheme at a Nashville HomeGoods store, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department.

Surveillance footage from the Bellevue HomeGoods on Sawyer Brown Road shows Donyale Blackwell, Robert Butler, and Cedric Hayes selecting items from the store and taking them directly to the return counter to falsely “return” them for money, despite having no receipts.

According to the arrest affidavit, the store issued a gift card for $480.66 in store credit in exchange for the supposedly returned merchandise.

The incident occurred in March 2024, and HomeGoods’ loss prevention team provided investigators with security video identifying the suspects. Authorities say the trio is connected to similar fraudulent return schemes in multiple jurisdictions across Tennessee and Kentucky.

All three have been charged and the investigation remains ongoing.
