COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) — A Midlands murder suspect who had been on the run for nearly a year has been captured in another part of South Carolina.
The Lexington County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that 34-year-old Donovan Holman was arrested on Wednesday in Horry County. Holman is charged with murder in connection to the July 2024 stabbing death of Caldwell Motley, Jr., and also faces an attempted murder charge for seriously injuring a second individual at the scene.
Authorities discovered Motley’s body inside a burning home on Oak Ridge Lane. A second victim was located in a detached garage on the same property.
According to the Horry County Police Department, Holman was arrested after being reported as an “unwanted person” at a residence near Myrtle Beach. Officers described him as “an aggravated individual under the influence of drugs.” He reportedly assaulted an officer during the encounter before he was subdued and identified through facial recognition technology.
Holman’s alleged accomplice, Edward Smith, was previously arrested in August 2024 and is also facing charges of murder and attempted murder.
