LAGOS, NIGERIA — Donatus Elom Ayim, 37, has been arrested and charged for allegedly defrauding Klub Vanity Limited of N17.2 million over a purported apartment rental in Victoria Island.
The Lagos State Police alleged that Ayim deceived the company into transferring N17,245,263 for an apartment between an unspecified date and March 23, 2025. After receiving the money, he reportedly went into hiding and severed all communication with the complainant.
Ayim was arraigned before the Ogba Magistrate Court, facing charges of fraud and stealing under Sections 314(1) and 280(i) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Philip Ademigbuji, requested a hearing date to allow the police to prove the allegations. The presiding magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted bail with two sureties who must provide evidence of livelihood and tax payment, and whose addresses will be verified.
Ayim remains in custody at the Kirikiri Correctional Center pending completion of bail conditions.
