CHICAGO, IL — Donald T. Hill, 35, was arrested early Thursday, March 20, in the 6900 block of West Belmont Avenue during a surveillance operation related to a series of alleged mail thefts. Hill is suspected of being involved in multiple mail theft incidents across the Northwest Side of Chicago and potentially other parts of the city since at least 2024.

Authorities, including the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and Chicago police, confirmed that Hill was found in possession of a U.S. Postal Service key at the time of his arrest. This discovery has led investigators to suspect his involvement in the theft of mail.

The surveillance operation was a collaborative effort between the Postal Inspection Service, Area Five Detectives, and the 16th (Jefferson Park) District police. Hill has been charged with possession of burglary tools, two counts of theft of lost or mislaid property, leaving the scene of an accident, operating a vehicle with an expired driver’s license, and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

Investigators are continuing to probe Hill’s connection to the mail theft incidents, as the investigation remains ongoing.
