GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A 41-year-old man is in custody following an attempted bank robbery at the Bloom Credit Union on Plainfield Avenue NE in Grand Rapids.

Donald Brubaker, currently incarcerated on unrelated charges, is expected to be arraigned later Thursday on charges related to the attempted robbery. According to Grand Rapids Police Department (GRPD), Brubaker attempted to rob the bank just before 10 a.m. Monday but left without stealing any money.

Afterward, police responded to a barricaded subject situation on Lafayette Avenue, believing it was connected to the attempted robbery. Brubaker was taken into custody after an hourslong standoff.

Online records show Brubaker was booked into the Kent County Jail on Monday. The investigation is ongoing.
