A Wichita Falls man is facing felony charges after police say they witnessed him placing a large bag into a car while wearing a ski mask—leading to the discovery of a stolen semi-automatic rifle.
Domonic Mims has been charged with theft of a firearm and interfering with public duties. His arrest followed an incident on the evening of May 28, when officers from the Wichita Falls Police Department Special Operations Unit were conducting increased patrols at Washington Village Apartments on Redwood Avenue. The stepped-up presence was in response to a recent rise in disturbance calls involving gunfire.
At around 9:35 p.m., officers spotted Mims wearing a ski mask and placing a large bag into the trunk of a gray Honda. He then entered the backseat of the vehicle along with several other passengers, and the car left the parking lot. Officers initiated a traffic stop in the 700 block of Harding Street.
Police reported smelling marijuana coming from the vehicle and proceeded with a probable cause search. During the stop, Mims reportedly refused to follow repeated commands to remain seated on the curb and was eventually arrested after multiple warnings.
The search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a tan Ruger Model 10/22 Carbine rifle inside the bag Mims had placed in the trunk. The weapon was confirmed as stolen.
At the time of reporting, Mims was being held in jail with bonds set at $11,000. The investigation remains ongoing.
